The highlights of the week before Half Term were the two outstanding shows of “Annie” by the girls of Upper Transitus. The two casts each bringing their own energy and dynamic to the performances. This was perhaps the most ambitious show the Drama department has mounted so far and it was certainly worth the effort. Thank you to Mrs Beckley and Miss van der Westhuizen for their work and vision in bringing the show together. Thank you to Mr Clark for the backcloth and other elements of the set and thank you to Mrs Tudor for teaching the girls the songs and then assembling and directing the orchestra.
On Thursday the semi-finals of the Speech Competition were held at St. Columba’s. We now have our finalists who will be performing on Monday 19 June in Founders’ Hall. I am very pleased to say that the adjudicators this year will be Nick Mohammed and Felicity Montague.
The weekend before Half Term the Brass Ensemble and the St. Nicholas Singers performed at the Faulkner House Music Festival at St. Mary the Boltons. Both groups were a credit to the school in their quality of performance. The members of the choir were commended for their confidence and the joy of their performance. The Brass Ensemble went down so well they were asked to perform again at the end of the event. Thank you to Mr Brown, Mr Winter and Mr SC for their time and effort.
The Common Entrance Examinations take place in the first week after Half Term. We wish all our candidates well and trust that all the effort that they have been putting in over the last weeks, months and years will be rewarded. We hope they will build on the excellent results posted by the girls earlier in the year and those boys who have sat for schools that do not use Common Entrance such as Winchester and Dulwich.
This year’s volume of “We Are Writers” has now been published. Children from Small School to the Upper Sixth submitted work to be published and in the end more than sixty authors were selected. Congratulations. All those who were selected to be included have been notified directly but the book is available to be bought by anyone. A copy of the order form is included at the bottom of this letter. Please print out and return to school if you would like to buy copies.
Following the successful use of “My Maths” in Cadogan Gardens, I am pleased to say that this has now been rolled out to all pupils in Main School too. All pupils have received their log in details, which can be used at home to access the site. Pupils can select any topics that they feel would be useful to brush up on.
The year group photographs are now available to buy. Every pupil should have had an order form to take home which contain instructions how to order. Samples of the photographs are on display in all buildings.
As the weather is improving and the mornings are warmer, may I again take this opportunity to politely remind you about the growing problem of children being dropped off before the school doors are opened at 8am and then left unattended. As a school we cannot take responsibility for the welfare of your child until they are passed to the care of our staff inside the building. If you do arrive a few minutes early please remain with your child to ensure they are safe and supervised appropriately. Thank you.
Details of all the events in the week ahead can be found in the Calendar section of the website.
