Headmaster’s Newsletter – 2 February 2018

Dear Parents,

The third ski course has left for Glion today. As you can see from the pictures the girls last week had a wonderful time with good weather and plenty of snow. The benefits that the courses in Switzerland have on all who go there cannot be underestimated. Quite often it can be quite startling to see what an impact is has on so many areas of the children’s lives.

This coming Tuesday, 6 February, is Safer Internet Day. Online and digital safety are certainly some of the biggest concerns and challenges facing the modern-day parent. We will be running Online Safety lessons throughout the week for all classes. Below is a link to the official site, which is full of helpful tips and advice. I strongly recommend you look through it and do discuss the subject at home with your child. https://www.saferinternet.org.uk

Next Friday, 9 February, will be Mufti Day. This term’s charity is Winston’s Wish a charity that supports children who have suffered bereavement. A separate letter will be emailed next week with further details. Here is a link to their website. https://www.winstonswish.org

World Book Day is on 1 March and we will again be celebrating this, and the lead up to it, in a variety of ways throughout the school. After Half Term the English Department will be staging a repeat of the successful book sale that we held last year, once again raising money for a literacy charity we worked with to support reading in deprived areas. More details of this will follow.

Due to a misunderstanding over dates, those who were expecting to meet Jay Jay Burridge, the author of Supersaurs, earlier today will need to wait until Friday 2 March when he will definitely be coming to talk to the boys in Lower Senior School and the girls in Lower Transitus.

Parents’ Evenings continue next week. These are again for the parents of pupils in Upper School and Lower Senior School.

Tuesday 6 – Upper School (Radnor classes)

Thursday 8 – Upper School (York classes)

The first Showcase of term is on Wednesday at 6pm in Founders’ Hall. This is a violin concert given by the pupils of Miss Correa and Miss Broom-Skelton. All welcome.

Best wishes,

Richard Townend
