Friday Clubs

chess club

Hill House runs a variety of clubs on Friday afternoons. These cover a wide range of activities including Football, Cricket, Tennis, Squash, Art, Chess, Singing and Cooking. Lunch is provided for all club members and the various clubs finish between 3 and 4pm.

For the Michaelmas Quarter the clubs will run from the third Friday of term (16 September) and then each Friday until 2 December (but not Friday 28 October, which is during Half Term).

The deadline for applications is Friday 2 September.

Please note:

  • Clubs will commence on the third Friday of term (16 September)
  • An application does not guarantee a place in a club
  • Once a place in a club has been confirmed payment must be received via direct bank transfer by Wednesday 14 September or the place may be withdrawn
  • Previous membership of the same or similar club does not guarantee a place this year.
  • Applications will not be processed in order of receipt.
  • Children must be collected punctually by the finish time stated in the published club details.
  • If your child is going home after club on their own or with someone other than their parent or guardian please notify the club leader IN WRITING beforehand.
  • We reserve the right to cancel a club if deemed necessary.
  • All information correct at the time of publishing but may be subject to change.

In Junior Club the boys and girls from Small School spend an enjoyable afternoon having lunch, playing in the garden, watching a DVD and participating in art and craft activities.

Lower School Arts and Crafts Club

Available to children in Lower School

Lower School Arts and Crafts Club aims to encourage the children’s natural artistic abilities using a variety of media and materials. Projects will cover a wide range of techniques and styles from drawing to painting to modelling.

Middle School

Middle School Sports Club

Available to children in Middle School

Middle School Sports Club explores fun, imaginative games and a wide variety of recognised sports. The children learn the rules and understand tactics of play. It provides an opportunity for those children with advanced sporting abilities to compete against each other, and include those who show interest in sport and improving their skills. Above all, the club emphasises positive attitudes and good sportsmanship.

Middle School Art Club

Available to children in Middle School

Middle School Art Club will be a fun afternoon where children will be able to develop their creativity. They will participate in activities where they will be encouraged to use a variety of media, from drawing and sketching to painting, design, craft and clay modeling, as well as learning about famous artists

Middle School Cooking Club

In Cooking Club we will be creating lots of exciting dishes and having lots of fun too. We will make everything from snozzcumbers and fresh mudburgers to chocolate brownies and magic window cookies. Of course it is important to try everything you cook, just to check it tastes OK! Come and let your creative juices run wild!

Upper School

Alpha Sports Club

Available to children in Upper School Alpha
Collection: 4pm from Cadogan Gardens
Cost: £220

Alpha Sports Club is an all-sports club focusing on teamwork, variety and fun. To try to expose children to all manner of games, promote an interest in all areas of sport and help create a broad spectrum skill set including: Handball, Softball, Rugby, Football and Cricket.

Beta/Gamma Sports Club

Available to children in Upper School Beta & Gamma
Collection: 4pm from Cadogan Gardens
Cost: £220

Beta/Gamma Sports Club is for children of all abilities who are enthusiastic about the time spent learning a variety of sports, although the club will be geared towards fun team sports, in particular football. All children will be encouraged to develop sportsmanship, good conduct and an ability to function appropriately in a team and with their peers at all times.

Kappa/Delta Sports Club

Available to children in Upper School Kappa & Delta

The Kappa/Delta Sports Club emphasises having fun, enjoying physical activity and movement and developing sportsmanship and independence. The club covers a wide range of games and sports and welcomes those students who enjoy physical activity and would like to further improve their basic technical and tactical knowledge.

Upper School Girls’ Sports Club

Available to children in Upper School Beta, Gamma, Kappa & Delta

The Upper School Girls’ Sports Club offers the opportunity to take part in a large variety of sporting activities. We play a multitude of fun games where we practise various ball skills and we also focus on competitive sports like hockey, rounders and netball. The club aims to promote and foster the girl’s knowledge of sportsmanship and teamwork,so they may become competent and confident sportswomen who enjoy all aspects of this subject, regardless of their different abilities.

Alpha Tennis Club

Available to children in Upper School Alpha
Collection: 4pm from Hans Place
Cost: £320

Members of the Alpha Tennis Club need to have passed the Silver Tennis Award and have been selected for the Beta/Gamma Tennis Tournament. They must be able to rally over the net from the baseline overarm serve for the first and second serves, be confident at volleys and smashes, understand the correct scoring of the games and positions on the tennis court. As the success of the club relies on a consistent ability among the members, skill levels may be taken into account when allocating places.

Drama and Dance Club

Available to children in Upper School Beta/Gamma/Alpha & Transitus
Collection: 3pm from Founders’ Hall

The Drama element of the club will focus on developing acting skills including creating a character, developing imagination skills as well as script and voice work. In Dance, the aim is to work on fun, modern routines incorporating contemporary and street dance. In both Drama and Dance, the children are also encouraged to create their own compositions and perform them. Most importantly, the club will be a positive and encouraging environment for the members to be creative and have plenty of fun!

Chess Club

Available to children in all sections of Upper and Main Schools
Collection: 3pm from Cadogan Gardens

Chess Club is open to all abilities. The players are shown simple ideas for the opening, middle and end games. They are also are introduced to the more complex ideas of strategy and tactics. Every year, pupils in the club are entered into the British Land UK Chess Challenge. Children who obtain enough points then have the opportunity to play against other pupils from other schools in the “Megafinal Stage”.

Upper School Art Club

Available to children in all sections of Upper School

Upper School Art Club will provide children with the opportunity to investigate and make Art, Craft and Designs. The children will use a range of materials and processes for projects, in both two- and three-dimensions. Applications will be welcomed from children who have an interest in exploring their own creativity and in developing their skills.

Traditional Games Club

Available to children in all sections of Upper School
Collection: 3pm from Cadogan Gardens

This club provides a great opportunity to socialise with others who have a shared interest in playing traditional games. While club members are having fun, they will also be practising the following skills: communication, sportsmanship, problem solving, critical thinking, logic and patience. We will also make our own games to take home. So whether it may be traditional games, board games, card games – you name it, we’ll play it!

Upper School Singing Club

Available to children in all sections of Upper School
Collection: 3pm from Cadogan Gardens
Cost: £160

Mrs Bulatovic loves to sing! Come and join her on Friday afternoons to sing along to a wide range of pop songs. You can also have some play time with your friends and finish off the afternoon by watching a musical DVD with some yummy treats. It’s a great way to end the week!

Main School

Senior Boys Sports Club

Available to children in Senior School & Sixth Form

Senior Boys Sports Club is aimed at keen sportsmen who are motivated to improve their fitness, skills and understanding of the variety of sports we play at Hill House. In the winter months the club concentrates on football and rugby, and in the summer months, cricket and baseball. Other games associated with these sports are also played to improve skills and keep them interested. Having fun is key at the sessions, as are determination and self-discipline.

Transitus Sports Club

Available to children in Transitus

Transitus Sports Club offers the opportunity to take part in a large variety of sporting activities. Sixth Form Tennis Club

Available to children in Sixth Form

The Sixth Form Tennis Club is open to children who are able to rally consistently from the baseline with both forehands and backhands, and serve overarm with control and consistency. Players can regularly place overarm serves into the appropriate service box. These players know how to keep score and must have previous match experience (single and doubles). Tennis Club members are encouraged to think about how they are winning and losing points during matches. Children will work on improving their match playing skills, focusing on concentration, movement on court, ground strokes, serve and return of serve. As the success of the club relies on a consistent ability among the members, skill levels may be taken into account when allocating places. Members must have passed their Silver award in Cadogan Gardens.

Squash Club

Available to children in Senior School & Sixth Form

Squash Club is a club for all boys at Main School who really enjoy the game of Squash and would like to improve their basic knowledge of the game. The club is aimed more at the senior boys, as they do not have Squash in their final year, although all years at Main School are welcome. As the success of the club relies on a consistent ability among the members, skill levels may be taken into account when allocating places.

Fencing Club

Available to children in all sections at Main School
Collection: 3.30pm from Founders’ Hall

Students are invited for a more advanced fencing course which will cover most aspects of this uniquely classic sport: strength and fitness, footwork, sword skills, tactics, individual lessons and competition fencing. The class is designed to build a solid foundation of skill with the aim to prepare the fencing team to represent our school at 2016 British School Team Championships. As the success of the club relies on a consistent ability among the members, skill levels may be taken into account when allocating places.

Chess Club

Students will be encouraged to develop and experiment with a rang of materials. Still life studies in different mediums will support portfolio pieces as well as focusing on key skills. These activities will broaden their experiences as a young artist. The club is particularly aimed at those children considering an Art scholarship to their next school.
