Headmaster’s Newsletter – 29 January 2016

Dear Parent,

Yesterday evening the John Betjeman Poetry competition was held in Founders’ Hall. It was a wonderful evening and a good example of what Hill House strives to achieve with all the children who pass through our care; the opportunity to spark interest and fire new passions. Congratulations to all the children who took part and also to Mrs Beckley and Miss van de Westhuizen for organising and preparing the event. In particular we commend our prize winners:

  • Outstanding Vocal Performance – Bianca Marquis
  • Outstanding Physical Performance – Alexander Woolmer
  • Outstanding Characterisation – Thananya Sawangpanich
  • Outstanding Vocal Clarity – Alice Bunting
  • Outstanding Ensembel Role – Tara Gidoomal
  • Outstanding Overall Performance – Mika Hood

A good way of making poetry more accessible at home is through the “iF Poems” app.

There are more Parents’ Evenings in the coming week. On Monday parents of children in the Upper School Radnor classes are invited and on Tuesday those in York classes. Doors open at 5.30. There will be displays of work throughout the building for you to see. Senior School have their first Parents’ Evening on Thursday in Founders’ Hall for classes 1 and 2. Doors open at 5.30. Time is limited on these evenings so if you feel there is a need to discuss anything particular in greater depth than is possible on the night then please feel free to arrange a follow up meeting.

We take a register of the whole school twice a day, once at the very beginning of the day and once in the afternoon. This is a legal requirement and critical to the safety of your children. If your child is going to be late or absent from school for any reason (illness, interview, doctor’s appointment) it is vital we are informed. Likewise it is just as important for children to register when they arrive late and not to just join their class. Please use the absentee form on the school website and this will be forwarded directly to the relevant person.

There is a Violin Showcase on Wednesday and ten sports fixtures through the week. All details can be found on the calendar page of the website.

Below is a certificate of thanks from Starlight for the money raised for them at the Small School Christmas plays last term. Thank you for your generosity.

I wish you all a good weekend.
