Headmaster’s Newsletter – 6 May 2016

Dear Parents,

As we reach the end of another busy week of school, Summer seems to have arrived at last. Now that the sun is shining please make sure that children come to school having applied sun screen. The UV levels are higher than you might expect.

The year group photographs went very smoothly on Wednesday. Thank you for helping to make sure everyone looked smart and well turned out. Details of how to purchase these will be passed on as soon as we have them.

It has been a very successful week for Middle School. On Wednesday fifteen of their number played their cellos in Assembly with great conviction. All the more impressive as they have only been playing since September. They have also had two very successful trips to the Science Museum. The children had a wonderful time during the activities that were tied into what they have been learning throughout the year in Science. Their conduct and behaviour was so good that one of the security guards said he had never witnessed such exemplary behaviour in his six years of working there. Congratulations! Whenever a child is wearing the uniform they are an ambassador for the school and so it is always very pleasing to have such warm compliments from the general public.

This week has seen the election for the Mayor of London and the London Assembly. Mock elections took place in both Main School and Cadogan Gardens. The boys in Upper School Alpha debated and analysed the manifestos of the main contenders. They then registered to vote, filled out polling cards in order to attain a ballot paper. The boys all voted and posted their ballots into the official ballot box. The final result was posted at the end of the day after being checked and verified with the appointed officials. It was a wonderful chance for the boys to experience the political and voting processes and they all participated with great gusto. There was a similar event in Main School where the boys in Zeta 2 manned the polling station. We wait to see if the results of the Hill House elections are reflected in the official ballot.

Please see below a letter from Great Ormond Street Hospital thanking us for our wonderful Mufti Day donation last term. Thank you for your generosity.

Next week we have a full diary of sports fixtures and a music showcase every evening. There will also be the monthly secondhand uniform sale on Tuesday in Cadogan Gardens.
