Headmaster’s Newsletter – 11 September 2017

Dear Parents,

Welcome back at the beginning of a new school year which is so full of excitement and opportunity for all our pupils.  The change of buildings for Lower School and the rearrangement and expansion of the Senior School is already showing favourable results and everyone is settling in to their new routines happily.

This autumn we welcome almost one hundred new pupils and some eight new tutors – most particularly Mr. Kenneth Glover is now with us full time as Undermaster and Academic Director to oversee the curriculum for the whole school.  Mr. Glover was previously Vice Principal of Wymondham College a highly successful state boarding school.  He holds an MA from the University of Glasgow and has just completed an MEd from King’s College London.  He is assisted by the two Directors of Studies Madame Christelle Fournes and Miss Karen Traut and the curriculum coordinators.

Mr. Christopher Carlson becomes Undermaster and Pastoral Director and will be responsible for the oversight of the daily care of your children assisted by the Senior Tutors all of whom are available each day to give advice and answer any queries you may have.

As we have done for the last few years, we will be carrying out some standardised testing over the next couple of weeks throughout the school. Absolutely no preparation is needed for these tests, which vary in their focus depending on the age of the child. The results that are produced are very helpful to the teaching staff in support of your children’s learning in the coming year.

Today was Music Day, when all the peripatetic music tutors go round the school letting the pupils try any instrument they like to see what interests them and fires their imagination. If your child would like to learn an instrument please fill in a form. These are available in both Hans Place and Cadogan Gardens. Please also fill in a form if your child is continuing from last year.

Tomorrow, Tuesday 12 September, is the first Secondhand Uniform Shop of the year. This is in Cadogan Gardens from 3.30pm – 5.00pm.

Friday Clubs will begin next week on Friday 22 September. Applications are being processed at the moment and we hope to confirm places at the start of next week.

We have a new company supplying a bus service home after school, CoachHire.com. Bliss Coaches are continuing to operate a service to school in the morning.

If you are interested in either of these services please contact the companies directly.

Bliss Coaches – Sue Stattersfield – 020 7394 6358 – sue@coachcentre.co.uk

CoachHire.com – Gary Lansdown – 020 3326 2254 – garylansdown@coachhire.com

It should be noted that we are happy to facilitate these bus services but they are operated and managed independently of Hill House.

We look forward to meeting all the Small School parents at Founders’ Hall this Thursday from 6.30-8.00pm for the first of our Social Evenings. Next week we welcome Lower School parents on Tuesday 19 and Senior School parents on Thursday 21.

Best wishes,

Richard Townend
