Headmaster’s Newsletter – 2 November 2018

Dear Parents,

Thank you for your generous donations for our Mufti Day collection before Half Term. I am pleased to say you have raised over £2,000 for The Brompton Fountain. It is wonderful to be able to raise money for a charity which we know from experience has such an important and material effect on those it helps.

The maze of new entry requirements for girls’ secondary schools can seem daunting and perplexing! In addition there are now a growing number of schools offering entry at 13+ without the need for further examination following the 11+ pretests.

To help you understand the new procedures we have arranged an evening at Founders’ Hall on Monday 12 November, 6.30–7.30pm.

Richard Tillett the Headmaster of Queen’s College, Harley Street will explain the new entry arrangements for London Day schools, the interview process and his enthusiasm for girls to stay at their prep school until transferring at 13 so that they have the opportunity to be “top of the pile” and enjoy the accolade of success that that brings in the wide curriculum with Art, Drama, Music and Sport

Oliver Blond, Headmaster of Roedean, will put the case for single sex boarding in a school by the seaside and easily reached in just an hour from London by a good train service. He will also outline the new initiative of a weekly boarding option Roedean offers.

In addition there will be a representative from a Co-ed school. There will be ample time for questions.

For the last few years the NHS has been offering a free Seasonal Nasal Flu Vaccination for children at school. An NHS immunisation team will come to Hill House to give the vaccine. This vaccination will be available to all children in Small School, Lower School, Middle School, Upper School and Lower Senior School and Lower Transitus. An email with full details will be sent on Monday. This will include a covering letter from the NHS Immunisation Team, a leaflet on “Protecting Your Child Against Flu” and a consent form. The consent form needs to be filled in regardless of whether or not consent is being given or denied. Please return the form promptly. The vaccinations will take place at school on 22 November.

This week we had the first music showcase of term presented by the Brass department. This is the start of a busy period for them as they will be playing some special arrangements at Foundation Assembly this coming Wednesday and the following week at our Remembrance Assembly.

Foundation Assembly is this coming Wednesday. Lower School have been preparing with great enthusiasm for their pivital role during the service. It is always a highlight of this most important Assembly of the school year. Seats will be reserved for Lower School parents.

Everyone should have received their package with details of how to order individual and class photographs. If you have not received yours then please let your child’s Senior Tutor know. Any queries about purchasing the photographs should be directed to the photographer.

Best wishes,

Richard Townend
