Headmaster’s Newsletter – 26 April 2019

Dear Parents,

Welcome back to the Summer Quarter. We started with a flourish at Assembly when Small School paraded in their Easter Bonnets and the Brass Ensemble blew away any holiday cobwebs.

Earlier today the boys and girls in Upper School were competing in the Inter House Swimming Gala at the Chelsea Swimming Baths. Every child will have won points for their respective houses. Next week it is the Main School Gala. Unfortunately due to restrictions on space it is not possible for parents to come to the swimming galas.

There is a full programme of showcases throughout the term in Founders’ Hall starting with clarinets and saxophones next Tuesday, Guitars on Wednesday and the Brass on Thursday. Later in the term the girls in Upper Transitus will be performing the musical Bugsy Malone.  Everyone is welcome at all the Showcases.

The calendar is full of trips throughout the school starting with the oldest girls visiting the Western Riverside Recycling Centre in Wandsworth on Monday and a little later in the term Small School will be visiting the Natural History Museum.

I am pleased to say that on Monday 24 June Dr Bowden Jones will be coming to Founders’ Hall to give a talk to parents entitled “How to talk to your children about drugs”. This talk is principally aimed at Main School parents but open to others too. Dr. Jones is one of the country’s leading figures in this field and his talk two years ago was very well received. We are delighted that he has agreed to come again to speak about this potentially tricky subject. Further details will be sent out closer to the time.

The annual year group photographs will be taken on Wednesday 15 May.

This Quarter sees the pupils in the Upper Sixth sitting their final exams for their next schools. We wish them all great success and trust that the hard work they have been putting in over the last months will bear the fruit it deserves.

With best wishes,

Richard Townend
