Headmaster’s Newsletter – 17 January 2020

Dear Parents,

Earlier this week the first of this term’s ski courses departed for Glion. Those of you who follow the school Instagram account will have seen the pictures of the girls enjoying sunshine and snow on the Rochers de Naye. We are taking six groups to Switzerland this term and as a result some ninety pupils will be benefiting from the unique experiences we can offer them while they are in the mountains.

Friday Clubs have recommenced this week. There are 22 clubs throughout the school, which give either options to try activities that are not possible to include during the week or the opportunity to further develop skills already being taught, such as Art, Drama, Tennis, Fencing. There are still places available in a few clubs, including our Journalism Club – membership of which we are extending to Senior School and Transitus. Details of all the clubs can be found on the school website. Please email clubs@hillhouseschool.co.uk if you would be interested in signing up your child.

I am delighted to announce that former Lord Mayor of London, Dr Sir Andrew Parmley has agreed to be the adjudicator for this year’s John Betjeman Poetry Competition in Founders’ Hall on Wednesday 5 February at 6pm. During his year as Lord Mayor he gave over five hundred speeches around the world. He is therefore very well placed to give our orators advice and guidance. All are welcome to this event, which is always an entertaining evening.

Unfortunately the Secondhand Uniform shop had to be postponed at the last minute due to illness and will now be this Tuesday 21 January in Cadogan Gardens between 3.30 and 5pm.

Best wishes,

Richard Townend
