An Academic Journey
A child’s mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be kindled.
The Four Principles
- Safety of the boy and girl
- Happiness at work and games
- Good manners and discipline
- Preparation for the next school
Although the school is large, providing an education for nearly 800 children between 4 and 13 years old, the pastoral and academic care of each pupil is closely monitored by an experienced Senior Tutor who looks after no more than 50 or 60 children. Classes are small, mostly of 12 with a few up to 15.
Hill House is decentralised, by ages, into four buildings each with a Head of House in charge. These buildings are equipped with tables, chairs, washrooms and resources built to fit the size of the child.
At Hill House academic subjects are taught by highly qualified and motivated teachers complemented by a music staff of twenty six specialist instrumental and choral teachers. There are twenty specialist sports instructors, many of whom are international team members. Painting, drawing and design all flourish in a strong Art Department led by expert staff.
Entry is non selective and prospective parents are welcome to visit the school any Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday morning at 8.30am during term time. You do not need to make an appointment. We look forward to meeting you.
